Dear Governor Lujan Grisham, Mayor Keller, County Manager Chavez, Superintendent Blakey, and local leaders,

On May 1st, millions of working people across the country will take to the streets to observe May Day, or International Workers Day. We respectfully urge you to recognize May Day by using your authority to close offices and grant public employees the day off so that workers may take part in May Day observances.

Right now, billionaires and their allies in the federal government are slashing the services working families depend on, gutting worker protections, and handing massive tax breaks to the ultra rich. In New Mexico, we know better. Policies like free childcare, protections for immigrants, and paid sick leave have made our state stronger and have changed working families’ lives for the better. These policies were only possible because working people in this state organized, showed up, and demanded them – and you listened.

We are asking you to stand with workers again.

This year, thousands of New Mexicans will take to the streets on May Day to declare that we need a country that works for workers – not only billionaires. Burqueños will rally and march for a day of no work, no school, and no shopping, joined by New Mexicans across the state. By granting public employees May Day off, you'll send a clear message: New Mexico stands with working people.

In solidarity,

Made in Solidarity Tech
